Huge crowd descended on the city to celebrate in defiance of social-distancing rules. Videos circulating on social media appear to show fireworks and flares being set off and glass bottles thrown at police. In response Merseyside Police issued a section 34 dispersal order, allowing officers to break up groups of more than two people until Sunday. And according to the Liverpool Echo the city's Mayor, Joe Anderson, is considering a curfew amid concerns that chaotic celebrations will continue tonight. "I appreciate LFC fans want to celebrate but please, for your own safety, and that of others, go home and celebrate at home," he wrote on Twitter. "Covid-19 is still a major risk and our city has already lost far too many people to the illness." Meanwhile in west London, police responded to a "block party" in west London after footage was shared on social media of scores of people partying in the street. Experts have warned that the UK could see a resurgence of coronavirus cases as a result of mass gatherings.
